Most website visitors come from search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask.com, and part of any Web marketing strategy is to ensure that your website is in these search engines so that it can be found by your potential customers.
It used to be that most search engine visitors came from approximately twelve "major" search engines — none of which charged for listings. Nowadays, although that number has drastically reduced, Internet usage has not, and traffic can be as much or more than before.
Once we've designed (or redesigned) your website, we will submit it to the major search engines as needed.
Note, however: nowadays, search engines generally do not require submissions — instead, they prefer to "find" websites via links from other websites. Such links indicate to them that a website is "important" enough to include in their search results and, for the most part, the existence of such links means that they'll find your website without requiring it to be submitted to them. In any case, while we're building your website, we'll take steps to ensure that they're finding your website so that, once we've launched your newly designed site, they already know about it.
In addition, we can also research and review topical search engines and websites to locate any that might be frequented by your potential customers. Since these can be a valuable source of traffic, these search engines and directories can be included in your overall search engine promotional plan.
Do I need to resubmit to search engines? No. Historically, some search engines used to drop pages in order to make room for new pages; today, this is generally no longer true. What this means is that, once a search engine has picked up your pages, you don't need to keep submitting them to that search engine and there's no need for any ongoing resubmission to search engines.
A directory is a kind of website that lists (that is, is provides links to) websites, and arranges these links in a usually vast hierarchy — for instance: Arts, Business, Computers, etc.
Major directories such as the AOL/Netscape Open Directory Project (dmoz.org) are also of primary importance in gaining visitors to websites, and therefore must be included in Internet marketing strategies. Although listings in ODP are approved by ODP editors and thus cannot be guaranteed, we'll submit your website to these directories in an effort to gain these prized listings for you.
We can also recommend submission for paid services such as Yahoo! Directory, which is different than the "regular" Yahoo! listings, and can write your submissions for these listings so that you can get the most of your advertising dollar.
Search engines are famously changeable, and have become more so — that is, most search engines base how high your website ranks on various factors, and these factors change over time. If yours meets their criteria, you'll get a better ranking than the next website.
As part of your website package, we will utilize our search engine optimized web design methodology, which has been successful in gaining excellent rankings in the search engines over the years for many, many clients.
Getting traffic and potential clients with a search engine friendly website is important — but you will likely find that most web design companies do not include search engine rankings as part of their services. Call us today to discuss.
